Pete started his career as a trainee injection mould tool designer with a small design company. Whilst there he qualified in Plastics Technology at Mathew Boulton College, eventually becoming a partner in the company and had wide experience of tool design for injection moulding, high & low pressure zinc and aluminium diecasting as well as gravity casting processes. Most of this work was for the automotive industry.
He later led the development department within prime plastics manufacturing at a UK based medical company. This included setting up a mould shop in a clean room environment, also becoming involved in some early work on complex tube/connector systems used in heart and heart lung surgery.
This followed with leading a worldwide business that specialised in very high volume miniature componentry in plastics and zinc, having responsibility for production management as well as technical specialities. This involved lots of travel to the US and the Far East.
Returning to the automotive industry, Pete joined a company to assist in the design and development of a vehicle air vent system. This led him to eventually lead the technical department. Since those early days, Pete had an interest in the commercial side of business and it was during this period that he enhanced this further, developing costing systems for prime manufacturing in the injection moulding industry.
A specialist automotive painting company asked Pete to join them to enhance their costing and quoting system where he developed a fully integrated Excel based Cost Analysis data system that allowed the company to respond to the enquiries both speedily and accurately. One of the key features of the system is the ability to produce Quotation Analysis forms that can be submitted to clients with ‘open book’ costings.
This role of ‘coach’ to the industry is becoming a valuable resource to companies who wish to fast track their commercial teams on accurate cost analysis.
